The Builder's fly-in
Ron Jones, Scott Alair and I are hosting the next Legacy builders fly-in and get-together Saturday, May 24th, from 10 a.m. until 4p.m. It will be located on-field at the Reid-Hillview airport in San Jose, CA (RHV) in and around Ron's hanger and ramp area. Jim Thomas began this tradition of getting together to promote better building of this fantastic aircraft and to develop lasting relationships with others building it. For those who have not attended one of Jim's gatherings, they are a great day full of gathering useful information on building and getting to know the other builders.

The day will be somewhat informal with certain aspects of the building process out for discussion including bodywork, hydraulics, canopy, tail feathers and nose gear fitting. These seem to be the issues of construction that are giving us some problems. Lancair has graciously agreed to fly down from Redmond to answer questions on building, discuss new options being developed for the Legacy and show-off the demo model as well as the new fixed-gear Legacy. Kirk Hammersmith will be here to answer avionics and panel questions. We will provide lunch consisting of sandwiches, chips and soda.

The true highlight of the gathering will be several flying Legacies attending. Rob Logan, Ron Brice, Bob Linder, John Halle, Rick Schrameck, Rich Henning and Shannon Knoepflein will be here to show off their newly-completed Legacies. Ron Jones is currently working on some speed mods and options for the Legacy including the recessed tip lights, flap fairings and winglets. He will have these out for show-and-tell. Rick Schrameck will be coming in to talk about, and show off, his supercharger that set the 3KM speed record for sport class aircraft at Reno. (347 mph!)

RSVP is requested for planning purposes, but not required. Our goal is to get as many of us together as possible. I'm sure we can all agree that this is the most incredible aircraft and it's great to get together and share the experience of building, flying and owning one. Please keep in mind that this fly-in is for Legacy builders and not intended to be an open fly-in for the general flying public or other aircraft type builders. We don't intend to purposely exclude anyone, and we welcome ALL builders, but there is only so much time in a day to discuss all the issues relating to the Legacy and constructing one, that we just can't support the other types.

We're looking forward to hosting this and look forward to having you all join us. See you in May!
Don Barnes, Ron Jones and Scott Alair

Airport Information
Reid-Hillview airport is located in the southeastern part of San Jose and has two runways 3300' in length with a GPS approach. Those familiar with it know we have some of the friendliest controllers in the system. It is a class-D airport and easily approachable without entering San Jose class-C or San Francisco class-B airspace. Transient parking is available.

We have spoke with the tower controllers and they will provide progressive directions to transient parking. Ron's hanger is located in "row Mike" and is off taxi-way "charlie" and "zulu". You may contact either Ron (cell # 408-489-6116) or Don (cell# 408-859-7088) the morning of the gathering.
